GMcG Chartered Accountants has announced Dementia NI as its 2020 charity partner – aiming to raise essential funds for the delivery of services that help people living with dementia and their loved ones dealing with a diagnosis. Dementia NI charity was chosen after a firmwide nomination process by the firm’s 100 employees across its Belfast, Lisburn and Portadown offices.
The year-long partnership aims to not only raise funds but also increase awareness of the vital work the charity carries out in helping people affected by dementia.
Across Northern Ireland it is estimated that over 20,000 people are living with dementia. Without support, people diagnosed with dementia can be left feeling anxious and frustrated, which can lead to social isolation and depression. Today, Dementia NI operates across Northern Ireland with many initiatives including empowerment groups across each Health Trust area to help raise awareness of about dementia, offer peer support, training and providing a voice for those living with the condition.
The Dementia NI empowerment officers and volunteers help people who have received a diagnosis of dementia to achieve the things that are important to them, so that while their life will never be the same again, it will still be worth living.
Employees across GMcG Chartered Accountants plan to take part in various fundraising activities including bake sales, sponsored runs, an abseil, zip slide, triathlons and much more to support the charity.
Fionnuala Savage Income Generation Manager Dementia NI said: “We’re absolutely delighted to have been chosen as GMcG Chartered Accountants’ charity partner. The new partnership will help many people living with dementia and their families across Northern Ireland to rebuild their lives. Dementia NI looks forward to working closing with our friends from GMcG Chartered Accountants throughout the year ahead“.
Susan Dunlop, Managing Director at GMcG Chartered Accountants, said: “We are really excited to announce our 2020 charity partnership with Dementia NI. The aim of partnership is to raise money to fund the charity’s vital empower and support services, through a range of activities organised across our three offices.
This is a great cause that strongly resonates with many of our employees as dementia becomes more prevalent in the communities we serve.
We know our fundraising will go some way towards supporting Dementia NI and their programmes that help people cope with the impact of a dementia diagnosis. Our employees are looking forward to taking part in a range of events and raising as much money as possible for the charity.”
